About Us
Paola Cattaneo, PhD
Group Leader

Emanuele Pizzo, PhD
Post Doc
After earning a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the University of Parma and completing five years of research training at New York Medical College, studying electrophysiological changes in diseased hearts, He joined the Cattaneo-Cardiolab in 2024 to investigate molecular and cellular pathways driving cardiac dysfunction and fibrosis

Cecilia Facchi, PhD
Post Doc
She developed her deep curiosity in cardiac regeneration during her PhD at the University of Manchester, during which she studied new potential targets for tissue regeneration after myocardial infarction. After a postdoctoral position within the network of Cancer Research UK investigating the mechanisms related to radiotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, she joined the Cattaneo Lab, studying epigenetic regulators and their relation with cardiovascular disease

Filippo Bergeretti, PhD
Post Doc
Dedicated bioinformatician with a strong interdisciplinary background, holding a BSc in Molecular Biology and an MSc in Plant Biotechnology. After five years applying bioinformatics to plant functional genomics (PhD at ITQB NOVA, Portugal), he joined the Cattaneo-Cardiolab in 2025. Here he focuses on extracting insights from multi-omics data and implementing machine learning and deep learning approaches. In his free time he enjoys growing habanero peppers, reading, camping and practicing meditation.

Carola D'Onofrio, MSc
Pre-Doctoral Fellow
With a master's degree in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Milan, She joined the lab in 2024. Her interests focus on discovering the molecular mechanisms involved in cardiac regeneration through the use of cardiomyocyte cell culture, murine models, and innovative molecular biology techniques.

Rustem Salmenov, MSc
PhD Student
From Kazakistan, graduated in Molecular Biology at Radboud University in The Netherlands . He is interested in cardiac regeneration, cardiac stem cell biology, and translational applications of iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes. Besides being interested in science, He enjoys watching and participating in different sports, reading casual literature, and procrastinating (from time to time).
